FAQ

  • Yeast is a single-celled microorganism used for making many foods. You will find baker's yeast in bread production, brewer's yeast in beer, kombucha and wine fermentation.

  • Fermentation of sugars by yeast is the oldest and largest application of this technology. After playing a key role in the fermentation process, surplus yeast is created and must be disposed of.

  • Yeast is regarded for its high protein, fiber, and umami flavor. Companies use spent yeast as the source for flavor extracts, protein isolation, and egg substitutes. Vegans consume nutritional yeast as is as a source of protein and fiber. We made one step further towards vegan meat.

  • Given the upper limits set by FDA, the average person can eat up to 8.5 lb of yeast-based meat, or up to 45 servings per day, calculated based on FDA reference amounts customarily consumed in the US.

  • Code of Federal Regulation requires FDA to test novel ingredients never used in food production. Yeast has a long history of use and has FDA GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status. All applications made from yeast are recognized as safe for human consumption. Planetarians Vegan Meat is manufactured at FDA certified facility.

  • USDA regulates animal proteins. Meat analogs are under FDA jurisdiction.
