5 ways to prove that Sunflower chips are good for lunch

Sunflower chips might be as nutritious as your regular meal. Sunflower chips have 3x more protein, 2x more fiber and 3x less fat per serving than typical potato chips. By making sunflower chips from otherwise discarded ingredients, we can feed up to 1.5B extra people without growing any additional crops.

Sunflower chips: Are they healthy?

Do you have limited time for seated meals and need to fuel your busy life on the go? Do you need a snack to get through the day? We know, snacks are convenient. They help you juggle all the things on your to do list, without getting hangry.

But if your mom found out you were eating snacks all day, we're guessing she might say:

  • Snacks are not real food
  • You'll get sick if you don't eat right!

To defend your right to snack, we researched sunflower chips and prepared some arguments that might win over mom.

Sunflower chips might be as nutritious as your last meal

Compare Sunflower chips to eggs, chicken nuggets, or beef patties, and you'll see that it has a comparable amount of protein. When your mom mentions empty calories, point her to the saturated fat in beef versus PLANETARIANS (beef has 10 times the saturated fat that sunflower chips have). When she asks about vegetables in your diet, you can tell her you get enough fiber from your snacks.

Health consequences and obesity issues? How about health benefits!

Your mom may point out that chips are high in fat and calories. People who eat too many empty calories and too much saturated fat raise their risk of weight gain and obesity. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease and some forms of cancer.

That might be true, if you eat fried potato chips. But you’re smart and you choose healthy chips. So you can tell mom: sunflower chips have 3x more protein, 2x more fiber and 3x less fat per serving than typical potato chips.

Even though you've probably already made your point, there's more to say:

The main benefit of plant protein is that it’s low in cholesterol and saturated fat, and diets low in cholesterol and saturated fat reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The main reason fiber is beneficial is that it feeds the good bacteria in your gut - your microbiome.  Functioning as prebiotics, fiber increases our levels of good bacteria, which protect our body from diet-related diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.

And our sunflower chips are baked, never fried. They're also gluten-free and allergen-Free.

Way better sunflower chips

Would you like to surprise your mom even more? You can tell her that your snacks are not only sustainably-sourced products, but by eating them, you're helping feed the world. This is how it works:

At least one third of food purchased by consumers is wasted. But did you know that even before your food makes it to the grocery store, the manufacturer has already wasted half of it? For example, when oil is pressed from sunflower seeds, the meal (the solid part of the seeds) is either wasted or fed to cows, when it contains more protein than beef. How crazy is that!?

At PLANETARIANS, we decided to do something about this problem. We now process sunflower meal into healthy, tasty and nutritious chips for people. Making chips instead of animal products not only reduces animal suffering and cuts greenhouse gas emissions, but it also means we can feed up to 1.5 billion extra people using only the plants we've already grown.
