Sunflower meal is the by-product of the extraction of oil from Sunflower seeds. Oil provides the majority of the value of sunflower seeds, and the meal leftover is considered a by-product. However, sunflower meal contains 35% high-quality protein with all essential amino acids. Another valuable nutrient it contains is dietary fiber.
Fresh sunflower meal is dried for optimal storage. It can be ground, broken into small pieces or pelletized for easier handling and storage.
Sunflower has never been genetically modified (NON-GMO) and is gluten-free. A major benefit of sunflower meal is that it does not have anti-nutritional factors such as those found in soybean, cottonseed and rapeseed meals.
